Nuclear shadowing at low photon energies

چکیده

We calculate the shadowing effect in nuclear photoabsorption at low photon energies (1-3 GeV) within a multiple scattering approach. We avoid some of the high energy approximations that are usually made in simple Glauber theory like the narrow width and the eikonal approximation. We find that the main contribution to nuclear shadowing at low energies stems from ρ0 mesons with masses well below their pole mass. We also show that the possibility of scattering in non forward directions allows for a new contribution to shadowing at low energies: the production of neutral pions as intermediate hadronic states enhances the shadowing effect in the onset region. For light nuclei and small photon energies they give rise to about 30% of the total shadowing effect. PACS numbers: 25.20.Dc, 24.10.Ht, 12.40.Vv Typeset using REVTEX

Low energy onset of nuclear shadowing in photoabsorption

The early onset of nuclear shadowing in photoabsorption at low photon energies (∼ 1 GeV) has recently been interpreted as a possible signature of a decrease of the ρ meson mass in nuclei. We show that one can understand this early onset within simple Glauber theory if one takes the negative real part of the ρN scattering amplitudes into account, corresponding to a higher effective mass of the ρ...

PHOTOPRODUCTION OFF NUCLEI AND POINT-LIKE PHOTON INTERACTIONS Part I: Cross Sections and Nuclear Shadowing

High energy photoproduction off nuclear targets is studied within the Glauber-Gribov approximation. The photon is assumed to interact as a qq̄-system according to the Generalized Vector Dominance Model and as a “bare photon” in direct scattering processes with target nucleons. We calculate total cross sections for interactions of photons with nuclei taking into account coherence length effects a...

Nuclear Shadowing Effects on Prompt Photons at RHIC and LHC

The transverse momentum distribution of prompt photons coming from the very early phase of ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions for the RHIC and LHC energies is calculated by means of perturbative QCD. We calculate the single photon cross section (A+B → γ +X) by taking into account the partonic sub processes q + q → γ + g and q + g → γ + q as well as the Bremsstrahlung corrections to those pr...

We calculate nuclear shadowing and Q 2 dependence of gluon densities within the framework of the Gribov theory of nuclear shadowing using as input recent HERA data on diffractive dijet and charm production in deep inelastic ep scattering. We explain that in the case of the deuteron and of the light nuclei (A ≤ 12) theoretical uncertainties in the calculations of shadowing are small. For the hea...

Nuclear Shadowing and In-medium Properties of the Ρ

We explain the early onset of shadowing in nuclear photoabsorption within a multiple scattering approach and discuss its relation to in-medium modifications of the ρ 0. The nuclear photoabsorption cross section is known to be shadowed at large energies, i.e. σ γA < Aσ γN. This was at first interpreted as a confirmation of the vector meson dominance (VMD) model, which assumes that the photon mig...
